Who Are We

Obscure Reference Games was founded in early 2015, but the roots of gaming run back for decades. From the days of the first rudimentary board games to the rise of the Pen & Paper Role-playing phenomena, the brave men & women of ORG have seen it all. Banding together for the greater good, they vow to bring the wholesome fun of yesteryear and the sound game-play mechanics of the future to you – TODAY!

David Zuckman

David Zuckman – Chief Executive Officer

I’m an easily enchanted fellow with a penchant for anything sci-fi or fantasy, but unfortunately far too little time to experience it all. I enjoy most gaming, ranging from video games to tabletop to sports. I spend most of my day dreaming up fun scenarios that I would love to see played out and sometimes these nebulous musings take form on paper. The rest of the time that I’m not working is spent conversing with my friends, most of whom are just as fond of making –ahem– obscure references.

Where are you from?

In Southern California, born and raised. On the console is where I played most of my games. Expanded out max, found more games that were cool, shooting some b ball outside of school…well that got away from me.

Why are you into gaming?

When I was 3, my parents bought an NES. I have fond memories of my family playing the Super Mario series and Legend of Zelda. My mother would often refer to Dr. Mario as her stress relief game. These humble beginnings forged my love of gaming and I have not looked back since.

Why are you part of this company?

I was told there would be cake. Oh, and it was my idea, or something.

Your favorite tabletop game?

It would be a disservice to choose just ONE game out of the many, many, brilliant games out there, but I will do it anyway. My current favorite game is: Twilight Imperium Third Edition.

Two Truths and a Lie?

I have seen the original “Matrix” 97 times.
I consider Disneyland to be one of the worst places on Earth.
My dog’s name is Robert (Bob for short) Stanley Zuckman

Jonathan Bermudez

Jonathan Bermudez – Chief Financial Officer

I am a gaming enthusiast who started on Atari and have transitioned to love games of many forms. Proud to be a combination of a cool and eccentric (but collected) resident geek. When it comes down to it, I’m just like everyone else in this world- family, friends, and bringing happiness to my world are my passions in life.

Where are you from?

I’m from a super suburb in California. The extent of the ridiculousness of my town can be summed up in the city council’s choice for its nickname: Awesometown. Regardless of that fact, it’s been a wonderful place to live and I am happy to be one of its citizens. That being said, Gotham might have been a more interesting town to live in.

Why are you into gaming?

I guess the gaming bug catches you like most people. It starts out as something fun and social to do with friends. Any excuse to get together and have some fun leads to exciting and hilarious encounters. Also, tabletop gaming tends to be a lot more social than console/online gaming.

Why are you part of this company?

Outside of making a product that can bring joy to people who love tabletop games, Despicable Me, and hilariously good times, it came down to the simple fact that I like working with a group of friends and bringing my experience in business and leadership to develop something that the world could fall in love with.

Your favorite tabletop game?

My favorite table top game, although I know the balancing may be off, I can’t seem to get enough of it: Munchkin. Hilariousness, backstabbing, and fun times always ensue with this game, and it’s accessible for a lot of people.

Two Truths and a Lie?

My two truths and a lie will be composed as song lyrics. It may be tough to figure out.*

“I kissed a girl and I liked it. The Taste of her cherry chapstick.”
“In the end the love I take is equal to the love I make.”
“Mama, I killed a man, put a gun against his head, pulled the trigger now he’s dead.”
*If you can’t figure out which one is actually a lie, then I weep for our species!

Marcus “The Rainbow” Schubert – Chief Information Officer

I am a lover of all things involving games and technology. Being the only remote member of Obscure Reference Games, I also live exclusively on the internet. When I’m not playing games, surfing the web, or working, you can usually find me playing the Ukulele or singing at a karaoke bar. I must admit that life is busy, but I enjoy every bit of it.

Where are you from?

I was born in Northern California, but I’ve moved all over the world. I currently reside Washington.

Why are you into gaming?

My Dad introduced me to gaming when I was four years old. It started on a Commodore 64, and made its way up to consoles and PCs. I’ve always played the common tabletop games (Monopoly, Clue, etc…) when I was younger, and because of David I’ve graduated into a plethora of more advanced and strategic tabletop games.

Why are you part of this company?

I want to be part of something that can provide entertainment to the masses. Plus, everyone in this company is a close friend of mine, and who wouldn’t want to start a company with their close friends?

Your favorite tabletop game?

I like simplicity. Being able to take the game wherever you go, plopping it down, and playing is wonderful. Because of this, I chose Cards Against Humanity. It is a guaranteed laugh every time.

Two Truths and a Lie?

I have competed in Dance Dance Revolution tournaments.
I am a certified Scuba instructor.
I create Ukulele covers of popular pop songs.

Christian Olsen – Chief Operations Officer

Who are you?

I’m Christian ::Expletive Deleted:: Olsen. Who the ::Expletive Deleted:: are you?

Where are you from?

Right here, Baby. Lived in Southern California my whole life. My grandfather moved his family to the Golden State from Utah because Salt Lake City was too cold for his tastes. I haven’t moved because I like being close to the beaches and mountains, Amusement Parks, and Hollywood Celebrities. Do I go out and see all those sights? Nope… but it’s good to have options.

Why are you into gaming?

I started gaming with the basic stand-bys from Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers. Took part in the RPG-craze of the late 70’s & 80’s, and started getting back into board games as modern game designers merged RPG elements with the ease of set-up of the old-style board games. I like the diversion games provide from the grind that is Life (not the game).

Why are you part of this company?

I ask myself that same question every day. Especially after board meetings. Cogito Ergo Oscuro.

Your favorite tabletop game?

Oh, too many to narrow down… Favorite Big Box Battle: Horus Heresy, Favorite Dungeon Crawl: Descent, Favorite RPG-Lite: Arkham Horror, Favorite Supernatural Horror circa the American Revolution: A Touch of Evil
